Walk This Way

10k steps per day goal

My husband decided for Lent that he was going to walk 10K steps per day.

I decided over our recent vacation to Florida that I would join him in this mission. I have been making a big effort with strength training since I turned 50 and I am loving that so much. Now I’m adding the daily walks in as well for more movement. This isn’t a weight loss thing for me, it’s more about my mental health as well as a mood booster. Getting outside for some fresh air each day reduces my overall stress level.

I love that we can all do this from anywhere and it’s free. I love listening to either good music or a good podcast, or you can make a phone call or talk to your walking buddy if you’re walking with someone. There is a built-in “health” app on the iPhone that I have used, but I’m also enjoying the “Pedometer” app to track my steps. It’s actually addicting to try to get to the magic number of 10K each day. I’m becoming that person that says, “let’s get some more steps in” whenever possible. Sometimes, that means taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Sometimes, that means taking mini walks throughout your day even if it’s 5 minutes each time. Sometimes, it means an after-dinner walk which by the way feels great to help you digest what you’ve just eaten. I’m loving this new 10K goal and I plan to keep it going this spring. Walking every single day is making me feel so much better on my journey to better health at age 50!
