Taking Time to Reconnect with Your Person

reconnecting with your partner benefits

Life gets busy, doesn’t it? Between work, kids, and daily responsibilities, sometimes our connection with our partner takes a backseat. But we recently had a great experience that reminded us how important it is to also prioritize each other. Jeff and I went to the island of Nantucket for a few days, just the two of us.

The decision to go away by ourselves allowed us some time to focus on each other and to reconnect. When was the last time you and your partner had uninterrupted, quality time together? No work, no chores, no distractions—just the two of you deciding what you want to do. For me, life lately is usually all about the kids and their schedules—especially with sports. It was so refreshing to change up that routine. Jeff and I rented bikes, went to the beach, did lots of walking and talking, and went out for great meals together with no distractions.

Nantucket was an amazing trip for us, but you don’t need a long getaway to reconnect with your partner. A simple date night, a walk outdoors together, or even a morning coffee date can work wonders. The key is to make intentional time for each other.

Our recent experience reminded us how important it is to keep working on our relationship, even after eighteen years of marriage.

We hope you find some time to pause and reconnect with your person too! It is one of the best investments you can make in your relationship.
