Why We Need to Try New Things in Midlife

There’s something wonderful about saying yes to something new, especially in midlife. As women and moms, we spend so many years focused on others. But this season of life? It’s the perfect time to rediscover you.

Trying new things keeps us curious, confident, and feeling alive. Recently, I’ve been learning how to play golf, pickleball, and a couple of years ago, I started playing ice hockey with some other moms. Am I great at any of them? Definitely not. But I laughed, moved my body, and surprised myself at how much fun I had—and that’s a big win.

Studies show that learning new skills in midlife can improve brain health, boost mood, and even slow cognitive aging. That’s reason enough to go for it.

It’s not about being perfect—it’s about being brave enough to begin. Whether it’s a sport, a hobby, or just something that scares you a little, try it. You’re never too old, too busy, or too late to start something new.

Midlife is a powerful chapter. Let’s fill it with good choices, a lot of laughs, and plenty of new things!

xoxo
