6 questions with my friend and fellow blogger Megan Schinella from “Camp by Mama”
People ask me all the time what it’s like to have a blog, so I thought it would be fun to hear directly from a friend of mine who runs a great mom blog here in Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Q: Hi Megan…tell everyone a little bit about yourself and your background.
I’ve been married eleven years this August to my college sweetheart Joseph. Before three children, I worked in the fashion industry (Camuto Group and Nine West Group). Plus in college I interned for W Magazine, I always had a passion for fashion.
I’m also a strong sports enthusiast. Played competitive tennis four years in high school, plus four years Division 3 college tennis. A die hard New York Yankees baseball fan, #2. Raised in a hockey household, a Hartford Whalers season ticket holder. And drank champagne from the Stanley Cup when the NJ Devils won the Cup in 2003.
However, nowadays, I’m a basic stay at home mom of three: two girls, Ava, age 9 and Gianna, age 6, and a son Nico, age 2. And I absolutely love it!
Q: Why did you start your “Camp by Mama” blog?
I started Camp by Mama as an outlook for myself to be creative, write, and connect with other moms. The blog is something for me to do for myself. As much as I love mom life, I also need me too. It makes me a better mom to have small breaks.
I’m always on the go with my three kids and thought to myself starting a blog would be a fun place to share activities, events, home decor, weekend picks, birthday party ideas, and fashion with others. What I love most about starting my blog are the friends I’ve made along the way.
Q: What’s your best tip for busy mamas when it comes to juggling life with 3 active (and adorable) kids?
Being a mom to three kids is a full-time job. It’s so important and critical to be organized and to get a good nights sleep, definitely helps with running a household. When the kids are in school or summer camp, at night is the perfect time to pick out their outfits and make their lunches for the next day (helps our mornings run a little
Q: What do you love most about living in Connecticut?
I love living in Connecticut because there is so much to offer for my family. From the Fairfield County area to the Connecticut shoreline. There are so many great restaurants, lots of entertainment, great places to shop, and the best schools for kids. From the beaches to casinos, to the parks, polo, summer lobster rolls, wineries, theaters, and so much more.
Q: What are your top 3 favorite things to do in the summer with the kids in Connecticut?
My top three favorite things to do in the summer in CT are
- Go to the beach. My three kids have been going to the beach since they were babies and they love it. It’s so great for them to be outside, play in the sand, swim in the ocean, just good family fun.
- Go to neighborhood parks, plus we love playgrounds, anything to be active. The kids run around and let all their energy out.
- Eating outside, basically picnic style. During the summertime, I’m not a big fan of indoor cooking, so I love grilling and eating outside. Occasionally we take a break and head out for dinner at a nice restaurant, which breaks up the monotony and the kids enjoy a nice meal out too.
Q: What do you love most about being a mom blogger?
I love being a mom blogger because I enjoy sharing tips and information with other moms. It’s a fun way to connect and make new friends. Plus, I love the adult only blogger events at night and fun family events we get invited to during the day.
