Tricks for a Sun-Kissed Summer Glow

It seems we have fast tracked into summer with sunny and hot days already here.

Since I am a skin cancer gal, I am NOT able to lay out in the sun or get any color from the sun. Basically the sun hates me. But the problem is I love having color and getting a “tan” or a summer glow. The good news is I can get that whole look from some of my go-to’s from Beautycounter. Here is my triple threat for a faux glow: Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer, Glow Shimmer Oil and Color Contour Matte Bronzer.

I won’t lecture you, but I urge you all to please wear sunscreen and please put it on your kids. The reason I have skin cancer all over my face and body is because I didn’t really wear sunblock during my childhood. Sorry mom…I don’t mean to throw you under the bus here. But I’m just saying, this is all old damage that I could have prevented early on.

So to make sure you are protecting your skin, here are the must-haves from our sunscreen which earns the very HIGHEST ratings for safety from the Environmental Working Group (EWG): All Over Sunscreen SPF 30, Protect Stick Sunscreen (for Face), and Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20.

I also want to give props to our sunscreen for being one of the only sunscreens out there that does NOT use oxybenzone. This is a toxic chemical that is not only potentially harmful to humans, but this chemical is also harmful to our environment. Please be kind to our planet! Oxybenzone is known to be killing our coral reefs because sunscreen is washing off of scuba divers, snorkelers and swimmers and it is damaging and bleaching the coral reefs. This is currently a big issue in Hawaii—there is currently a proposed bill for Hawaii that would ban the sale of sunscreens containing oxybenzone in an effort to save our coral reefs.

Please consider using a healthy sunscreen that is not only safe for humans, but also safe for our coral reefs :). When you know better, you want to do better.

Happy summer glow, everyone!! xoxo NBC
