Are you looking to make some healthier decisions in the new year? Simple, healthy switches are important, and if you haven’t started yet, now is the perfect time! The new year gives all of us a chance to start fresh and new. And if I can do this, so can you!
Progress not perfection is my mantra. Making small changes in your house can make a big difference when it comes to how many toxic chemicals are coming into your home.
So why should we make the switch? Research has shown that chemicals in everyday products can cause various health problems—from birth defects and infertility to certain types of cancer. According to the CDC, there are 298 environmental chemicals that have been discovered in humans, and many of these chemicals are found in household items such as cleaning products, toothpaste, hand washes, soaps, detergent, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, and the list goes on. All these chemicals in your home accumulate in the body, which can ultimately be making you and your family sick.
Once you know better, you want to do better. So, here are a few of my changes that I have made in my house over the past two years (my list is in no particular order).
I switched from plastic straws to Norwex Stainless Steel Straws.
I switched from Secret deodorant to PiperWai deodorant.
I switched from Fracas perfume/fragrance to Joie Essential Oil Perfume by Rare Earth Naturals.
I switched from Dreft laundry detergent to Seventh Generation detergent.
I switched from Cascade dishwasher pods to The Honest Company Dishwasher Detergent Pods.
I switched from Colgate toothpaste to JASON toothpaste (for my kids too!).
I switched from Softsoap anti-bacterial hand soap to Beautycounter Citrus Mimosa Hand Wash.
I switched from Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner to Beautycounter Daily Shampoo and Conditioner for my husband and myself, and Beautycounter’s Nice Do Kids Shampoo and Super-Duper Clean Kids Body Wash for my son and daughter.
I switched from NARS bronzer to Beautycounter Color Contour Bronzer.
I switched from a Swiffer mop to a Norwex Microfiber Mop.
I switched from Coppertone sunscreen to Beautycounter Sunscreen SPF 30.
I switched from Johnson & Johnson baby powder to The Honest Company Organic Talc-Free Baby Powder.
I switched from Bounce dryer sheets to Norwex Wool Fluff and Tumble Dryer Balls.
I switched from Vaseline Instensive Care body lotion to Beautycounter Hydrating Body Lotion in Citrus Mimosa.
It’s incredibly easy to make simple switches! If you’ve made some other changes, please feel free to share in the comments below. I am always looking to add to my list, so let’s all help each other—one switch at a time, one small change. And please message me anytime with questions. Here’s to a healthier and cleaner 2017!
